The Marvellous World of Manufacturing

Not many people give much thought to the fact that almost every object you touch as you go about your day had to be manufactured by someone. When you stop to consider the impact that the processing and manufacturing industry has had on the modern world, it can blow your mind. My mind was blown when my son arrived home from his new job at a local processing and manufacturing plant and told me about the industry he was now working in. Since then, I have learnt all kinds of cool things which I would love to be able to share with the rest of the world.

Benefits of Using Stainless Steel for Fabrication

by Anthony Harvey

Stainless steel fabrication is the process of cutting, welding and assembling metal into finished products. It is a crucial process of the construction, automotive and manufacturing industries and even the agricultural industry. Structural steel is the most common material used for fabrication. Benefits of using steel for fabrication include the following:

Durability

Stainless steel is used for fabrication due to its strength. It is able to bear the effects of the elements and is stronger in comparison to other construction materials. It also has a long durability level backed up by a warranty. This means that it requires less maintenance and you do not have to replace its foundation. As a strong material, steel can withstand fire and ensure that your structures can withstand weather disasters such as storms and earthquakes. Its strength-to-weight ratio makes it a good material for huge buildings.

Ability to customise

It is possible to manipulate stainless steel into different shapes and sizes, making it a good building material. It is possible to bend, fold and machine steel, making it a good material for custom parts. It is easier to make unpremeditated changes to steel structures to make them more flexible than other metals. The ability to customise steel makes it easily compatible with other parts — ones that might not be designed for a standard steel part.

Environmentally friendly

Using stainless steel for fabrication helps protect the environment. This is because it has a low carbon footprint and it is possible to recycle it. Using stainless steel, therefore, is an advantage for companies concerned with their carbon footprint as they can recycle it and reduce the amount of waste they produce. The constant use of steel to build frames and floor leads to the conservation of trees.

Cost-effective

Stainless steel fabrication results in savings compared to fabrication with other metals. Since it is strong and durable, it will not need a replacement for years. It is also easier to fabricate stainless steel, saving time on construction. In addition, due to its lightweight nature, you will make savings on the amount of building materials you require. Stainless steel is also pre-programmed into the desired design, increasing the speed of construction. By buying pre-cut steel parts, the time for fabricating steel on site is eliminated. This provides the benefit of accurate parts ready for installation. It is also cheaper to buy steel in comparison to other metals used for fabrication.

By choosing stainless steel for the fabrication process, you have the benefits of strength, durability and cost savings.
